Lisa Samuelson

Lisa Samuelson – President of Samuelson Communications
Lisa Samuelson is a communications consultant with more than 20 years experience in integrated branding, marketing communications, sales, and public relations across a variety of industries. Her focus is helping organizations define clear and lasting messages and brands and communicating those brands clearly and consistently to external and internal audiences. Samuelson Communications excels at helping clients get to the heart of their story and telling it in a compelling, differentiated way that resonates with their audiences.

Some of her clients include Microsoft (brand and messaging), F5 Networks (marketing), Patient Power (brand, marketing and PR), the Seattle Boat Show (PR), Service Performance (brand consulting), QMS Consulting (brand consulting) and the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association (brand consulting). In addition, Lisa is the strategic brand and messaging partner of Rhizome Design and has worked on a number of projects with Jen Pennington.

Lisa is a contributing author to a highly regarded book on branding and leadership—Brand Driven: The Route to Integrated Branding through Great Leadership (Kogan Page 2003)—and sought-after public speaker and expert on brand and marketing issues. Speaking engagements have included the Washington State Governor’s Leadership Conference, the Pacific Northwest Economic Regional Conference, the American Marketing Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Portland Female Executives.

Prior to her current consulting practice, Lisa was a vice president at Parker LePla, a Seattle-based nationally recognized brand strategy firm where she led teams to develop and implement successful verbal and visual branding strategies for and within organizations. Clients at Parker LePla included Group Health Cooperative, Health New England, Digital Blackboard Foundation, Seattle Children’s Home, Perinatal Treatment Services, Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation, Rainier Scholars, Tacoma Art Museum, the Washington Wine Commission, and the Washington State Department of General Administration. She holds a BA with honors from the University of Melbourne, Australia and studied marketing at UC San Diego and public relations at the University of Washington. She studied abroad at the Scuola di Lingua per Stranieri in Florence, Italy and the Université de la Sorbonne, Paris, France.


Treena Colby

Treena Colby, VP of Marketing and Business Development of Cypress, Ltd.
Treena brings a unique combination of research, writing, business development, marketing and event/project management skills. She has a deep knowledge of clean technology clusters, sustainability firms and those sectors promoting or adopting strategic sustainability. Treena has been working for Cypress for three years, and manages Cypress’ involvement with the Southern California Edison and PG&E Commercial, Retail and K-12 schools energy efficiency programs. She is also responsible for marketing Cypress’ programs, the company itself and business development.

Before her work with Cypress, Treena worked with Athena, a research, consulting and events company that focuses on strategic sustainability for utilities, businesses and communities. She was the event manager of Discover Brilliant International Conference & Expo (focusing on sustainable solutions for business, buildings, utilities, communities and transportation) and the Urban Waterfront Revitalization Conference. Specific duties included program development, marketing, audience development, association and media partnerships, public relations and overall event management. She also aided with regional inventories of sustainable firms and has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research into sustainable firms and practices.

Treena also worked for the Seattle Consulate of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, assisting companies to find customers, partners and opportunities in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Additionally, she was an Associate Advisor at Giga Information Group (now Forrester Research), providing objective research, advice and continuous coaching on technology for e-Business to Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies.
Treena graduated from The Colorado College with a B.A. in Environmental Policy. In her free time, Treena writes energy efficiency-related blog articles for Microsoft Hohm, the technology giant’s energy efficiency solution, as well marketing engagement blog pieces for Microsoft Tag, their mobile marketing offering. Treena is also an Advisory Board member for the Network for Business Innovation and Sustainability (NBIS).


Emily Corey

Emily Corey, Writer/Owner of Write on the Wind

Emily Corey is an award-winning writer and editor for web, multi-media, and advertising as well as for books and the theater. She has received the Gold and Silver CLIO Awards, the Belding Award, the Benny Award, and the London International Advertising Award. Her writing has been selected as part of the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Fashion Archive Collection and has been honored for professional excellence in Communication ArtsCreativity Magazine, and Studio Magazine.

She has written for Guess, Hewlett-Packard, Melles-Griot, Dakota Specialty Milling, the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), Choice Organic Teas, Virgin Records, Warner Brothers Records, Knowledge Adventure, Sound Options, and Glassworks. She is editor of the A Decade of Guess; Guess? The Third Decade; and Scenes and Etudes: An Acting Teacher’s Chronicle, a book about the life and work of actor, Jeff Corey.

She is co-book writer of the musical Songs From The Tall Grass, which made its world premiere at the historic Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC.  Songs From The Tall Grass has received the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius grant and the Challenge America grant.

Emily received her B.A. in American History from UC Berkeley and a Masters of Library Science from UCLA.
